I prefer the most simplistic, yet functional. My favorite is Hacker's Keyboard

Messagease, hands down. It takes about 3 days to get used to (three super uncomfortable and annoying days) and then it spoils you for everything else. No other keyboard comes close to being this convenient to use, especially if you suffer from fat fingers. Hell, there's even a setting in the keyboard to make all the keys blank and you can still type at blazing fast speeds. In other keyboards like swype or slideit, you make the loopy gestures, check if the word is correct (which isn't always the case with small words) and move on to the next word. With messagease, you don't have to pause to check because you entered each character manually with no need for prediction or autocorrect/autocomplete (though messagease offers autocomplete anyway).
I bought a Samsung Captivate glide because it had a physical keyboard. Once I found out messagease, I don't remember ever having to slide out the physical keyboard.
This is one of the best apps in the play store. And I haven't even mentioned how many shortcuts it gives you for copy/paste, cursor control, macros, multiple languages and saving/exporting/sharing keyboard layouts easily.
TLDR: Try Messagease for 3 days. You will wonder how you ever lived without it.

I want auto space after a punctuation and auto capital after a full stop and SwiftKey is the only one so far that is giving me that. I loved and bought AI type keyboard but it is lagging like hell online on forums etc. Having said that so does SwiftKey on some updates. If someone can suggest a keyboard that gives me the features I need I'd try an alternative.
FYI I don't swipe, I type, I'm so anal about it I simply can't bring myself to swipe

In my case, the open source Hacker's Keyboard. I normally use an external hardware KB if I need to do extensive input. Hacker's KB is for the quick and dirty stuff. It's configurable as to how many rows it displays, has arrow keys, and easy access to non-alpha characters.

Hackers keyboard! Small buttons but nothing can beat full qwerty keyboard (but I have specific needs, I use ssh a lot). The only problem I have is lack of emoticons in sms app... can't figure out how to turn them on, anyone figured it out?

Tremlar, im so glad to see im not the only person on thw planet who refuses to "swipe" . I dont get it, never will. I, too prefer a keyboard that actually does the automatic space and cap after all punctuation. Thw one keyboard that never fails me on this is Cheetah keyboard. Its tiny, too.
