Overview: Ryan D Gebhart first started writing the Jewel of Life series in 2012 in Philadelphia, PA, shortly after concluding his undergraduate studies in philosophy. This unexpected passion evolved over the years and has remained a constant companion through his career changes, from a Capuchin Friar, to a Claims Processor, receiving a Graduate Degree in Architecture, and now working at an Architecture Firm in Washington, DC. 1. Splendor of Dawn
What was once reality now fills the minds of Eklean’s children as no more than fables. Despite his pointy ears, not even Devlyn believes that he is an elf; they have all passed from living memory into stories. At least, that’s what he’s been told his entire life, growing up as a ward of the abbey school of Cor’lera. One day, a silver-eyed woman with pointy ears tells him something very different and invites him beyond the village limits to discover the truth about his allegedly criminal family. Swept into a world of magic that includes dragons and a phoenix, Devlyn’s eyes open to a world he believed was a myth when shadows of the past reveal themselves once again.
2. Hidden Within
Alone in the Illumined Wood after fleeing in the midst of the devastating attack on Ceurenyl, and uncertain about the current state of the city, Devlyn wrestles with his doubts and choices. Even as he struggles to understand the meaning of the ancient prophecy, the young elf grows closer to the last phoenix. Meanwhile, the Lucillian Alliance is crumbling and the Erynien Empire continues its devastating march across Eklean, decimating any opposition. Eklean’s various races well remember Erynor’s previous reign. Now though, the Guardians and the Lorenthien aryls who were successful in bringing all the races together to battle their oppressor died at the Fall of Krysenthiel, fourteen hundred years ago. What is Devlyn’s role in Eklean’s reforged war against Erynor?
3. Fading Lights
As the Lucillian Alliance crumbles and Ramiel's prison weakens, the Erynien Empire's supporters' true loyalties are revealed. Yet even with the scales of power shifting, all is not lost, Myrium still stands, legends awake, and a Phaedryn soars through the skies for the first time in fifteen hundred years. Devlyn must reconcile his identity and his place in the world to fulfill the prophecy spoken by Lucillia.
4. Shadow of the Lost
I killed my Kiron. He was my everything and I killed him. He changed our plan too late for me to argue; too late for me to internalize and accept it. I could never accept it. I still cannot accept. I cannot accept what happened. Why do I still breath while Kiron floats in the nether?
