5. The Boric Acid Murder (2002)
When the lifeless body of activist Yolanda Fiore is found at the bottom of the stairs of the Revere Public Library, transplanted Berkeley physicist Gloria Lamerino makes the case for murder quickly. The woman was recently fired from a lab where she investigated the use of boric acid in nuclear reactors. And when the son of a friend is accused of the crime, Gloria is determined to solve the mystery.

The intelligent, provocative Yolanda had a knack for stirring up trouble -- but was her murder connected to falsified data at the lab, her zeal to stop the expansion of the local library, or even her research into a fifty-year-old murder? Gloria's solid but divergent theories each begin to unlock some dangerous doors, shedding new light on a case of chemistry and crime involving means, motive and a killer's miscalculation.

6. The Carbon Murder (2004)
Gloria Lamerino's goddaughter, Mary Catherine Galigani ("MC" to her friends), needs a change in her life. She decides to move back to her hometown of Revere, Massachusetts, thereby ridding herself of both an abusive relationship and an unfulfilling job in Houston, Texas. At least that's the plan.

When two homicides disrupt MC's peaceful return to Revere, Gloria applies her not inconsiderable detecting skills to help the police solve the crimes. At the same time, Gloria must face the medical problems of her partner, Detective Matt Gennaro, and the next steps in their relationship. In this sixth periodic table mystery, Gloria delves behind the scenes into the worlds of nanotechnology and show horses, and unwittingly uncovers a crime ring larger than the distance between Texas and Massachusetts.

7. The Nitrogen Murder (2005)
Why is Minichino's Gloria Lamerino series unique? It's elementary--in the sense that each adventure revolves around an element in the periodic table. This time it's highly combustible number seven: nitrogen. But another key element of the series is quite human: its amiable protagonist, Lamerino. The retired physicist "of a certain age" loves teaching, drinking espresso, and spending time solving mysteries with her fiance, homicide detective Matt Gennaro. Here, Gloria and Matt have left their Boston-area home to attend the wedding of Gloria's friend Elaine in Berkeley. Although a fellow scientist, Elaine's fiance, Phil, rubs Gloria the wrong way. Exactly what is the highly classified research he is doing on nitrogen? As her suspicions grow, Gloria alienates Elaine, but when Phil goes missing, the two friends must reunite to find him. In addition to its bizarre premise, Minichino's series features many original touches. For example, though they may not be spring chickens, Gloria and Matt are portrayed convincingly as passionate lovers. A series so entertaining that even certified chemistry haters will hang on every molecule.

8. The Oxygen Murder (2006)
In this eighth in the Periodic Table series, newly married physicist Gloria Lamerino and her homicide-detective husband, Matt Gennaro, have left Revere, Massachusetts, to travel to New York City. With Matt at a law-enforcement convention, Gloria is free to enjoy New York with friends Rose and Frank Galigani. Then a colleague of Matt's niece, documentary filmmaker Lori Pizzano, is found dead in Lori's loft, and Lori is a possible suspect. Gloria, naturally, can't resist investigating. Facts about ozone and its effects on industrial workers are woven seamlessly into the story, as Lori shares her research on her upcoming documentary with Gloria, and Gloria reflects further on oxygen and the environment. Sympathetic characters, the examination of the close friendship between Gloria and Rose, and plenty of humor enliven an engrossing story framed by interesting information on the science of ozone.

9. The Fluorine Murder (2010)
The Fluorine Murder is the ninth story in the Periodic Table Mystery Series by Camille Minichino. Watch retired physicist Gloria Lamerino juggle wedding plans with solving a case of arson and murder. If you like it, you're in luck: there are 109 stories to go!
