MIKE4 series by J.R. Seeger (#7-8)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 1.1 MB
Overview: JR Seeger served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and as a CIA officer for a total of 27 years federal service. Since his retirement, JR has written articles and book reviews in the CIA professional journal "Studies in Intelligence" and the TE Lawrence Society newsletter. He has several short stories available on Medium.com.

MIKE4 was his first novel and the first in a seven part series about a family who have served in the special operations and intelligence community from World War II to the present. This series follows the lives of Sue O'Connell, a special operations wounded warrior, and her mother, Barbara O'Connell, who is a retired CIA case officer. Their adventures take them to Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia.

In 2020, JR has started a new series focusing on the early twentieth century competition among the great European powers. Part fantasy, part thriller, the first book, “A school for the Great Game,” looks at the first decade of the last century through the eyes of two young adults. There are now three books in the series taking two competing families into World War I. Their competition parallels espionage and subversion fostered by the British and the German Empires fought on the battlefields of the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. These books are illustrated by JR's wife, Lise Spargo.

JR and Lise split their time between Western New York and New Mexico.
Genre: Fiction > Mystery/Thriller

Playground for Ambition (#7)
SPECIAL OPERATIONS INTELLIGENCE OFFICER SUE O’CONNELL has found a way to break free from mundane office desk work. She and her colleagues from the SOF HUMINT cell are going to hunt down two Balkan war criminals visiting Germany.
Better still, Sue is going to get a chance to work with her boyfriend, who is also based in Germany. They simply need to prove that the travelers are war criminals, then turn the information over to the German authorities. Meanwhile, Sue’s mother, Barbara O’Connell, is working on a project to return art looted during World War II to the original owners. The project involves identifying if the art for sale at a Frankfurt auction house belonged to a Jewish family in 1939. If so, the family can file a lawsuit to stop the sale and arrange for the return of their heirlooms.
Both projects seem straightforward: Collect the information and turn the operations over to the Germans. But, like so much in the history of the O’Connell family, nothing is truly easy or without risks. When the two operations collide with a scheme involving a vast, new playground for ambition, treachery reaches startling heights.

The Swordfish Deception (#8)
After nearly fifteen years of war zone deployments as a military intelligence officer with the US Special Operations Force (SOF), Sue O’Connell is now working in a world where it was unlikely that she would be shot, blown up, or captured. Officially, she now worked for the CIA. But, US and European agents and sources are dying mysteriously, and Sue’s team is suddenly on its way to Germany. As CO Jamie Schenk says, “It’s murder, Sue. A simple case of murder.”

Meanwhile, Sue’s mother, retired CIA case officer Barbara O’Connell, is at home and puzzling out a mysterious note and the key to a Swiss bank account left to her by her father-in-law, OSS commando and CIA intelligence officer Peter O’Connell Sr. She reaches out to friend and colleague Beth Parsons, former ambassador and current troubleshooter for an international insurance company. Beth offers her banking assistance in exchange for a little help with a stolen Russian icon.

Once again, the separate paths of Sue and Barbara twist and converge. Once again they find themselves targeted, obstacles to be eliminated by the Russian mercenaries known as SWORDFISH.
