Zacharia Coburn’s flight-state mushroom business barely makes a dent in the FTL industry, controlled by a few powerful, interstellar corporations. Starship pilots can take a dose of these ultra-rare mushroom strains to pull a ship into the jump plane and rapidly cross the stars.
There’s no reason for anybody to ever notice the Very Good Mushroom Concern, the business Zach’s running with his partner, Anna Brooks. Organic. Homegrown in a barn in the northern Idaho territory. Made with love. They’re just a barnacle on the tail of a behemoth.
Until their secret gets too big to control. Zach and Anna have cracked the code. Their mushroom strains allow the kind of jump distances pilots have only dreamed about.
In a galaxy where commodities are king, jump distances control the market.
So, when Anna goes missing, Zach isn't sure where to start looking. Even with the best mushrooms ever grown at his disposal, finding Anna somewhere in the galaxy will be harder than locating a needle in a haystack. Try finding a needle on a planet covered in hay.
The odds are against him, but giving up isn’t an option. Anna might just be the key to the entire galaxy: whoever gets their hands on her will have it at their feet.

2. Burn the Stars - No one knows better than the pilots: in the thrall of FTL mushrooms, distance is an illusion.
When Anna Brooks was kidnapped, Zach Coburn believed the battle was to get her back. Little did he know how many entities wanted her for the secrets locked inside her.
Old enemies have Zach in their sights like never before as the game to control space turns volcanic and small competitors leverage themselves against the massive corporations.
Throttled jump distances once gave the corporations the advantage in controlling space. Now the Very Good Mushroom Concern will be their undoing.
Without Anna, is that still true?
Zach knew he had a lot of enemies, but as they line up to take everything from him and gain the advantage on the interstellar stage, Zach must confront more than the demons from the life he left behind.
The journey is as much within him as outside him. Anna is key, but Zach is only now discovering how true that is. Together they have the power to unlock cosmic secrets.

Can Zach and his crew find her before another powerful entity gets their hands on her and either silences her or uses her knowledge to unlock mind-blowing FTL distances? If he has to, Zach will burn the galaxy down on his quest to find her.
3. Cross the Stars - Even the darkest, deepest reaches of space can’t keep secrets.
The space between the stars is unfathomable. But as Zach and his crew continue to chase after Anna Brooks, his business partner and lover, the black chasms between celestial bodies get smaller.
Zach hears her signal. She calls to him and he knows he’s on her trail. It’s just a matter of time before the crew of the White Rabbit catches up to her.
With the unveiling of the faces and names of each player in their game of cat and mouse, Zach’s discoveries of what lies beneath lead him deeper into the machinations of an intricate and complex universe.
The Jump Plane—accessed by pilots and their mushrooms—is the known entity. But now, with the lure of the vicious Brutalists who took Anna, the layers of everything are being pulled back.
Exposing agendas and who has them leads Zach and the crew further from the safety of civilized space. From the corporations and the Brutalists, to the secret histories of Zach’s crew, the game gets deadlier as the players get more powerful.
But the most elusive agenda of all belongs to the silent organism of the mushrooms themself. Their goals might be the most dangerous of all.
When Anna goes silent, Zach must decide if the sacrifices are worth it. If it was him alone, there would be no question.
But is the fate of his crew, the ship, and everything aboard it worth Anna’s life? The journey to find her promises to illuminate not only the darkest corners of distant space, but Zach’s soul as well.
