Overview: In an obscure arena of Syracuse, Julius Caesar recognises Iryna the Gladiatrix. not only as an exceptional fighter, but also as an eastern beauty with a mysterious background. Intending to employ her as his personal bodyguard, Caesar is captured by pirates while on his way to Rome. Iryna secures his escape, and is then sent to Crassus, the wealthiest man in the world, to be trained in more efficient methods of killing.
Now invincible in combat, Iryna is now famous in Rome, when she overcomes impossible odds in the arena. Caesar, facing treachery from friends and enemies alike, installs Iryna in a villa in Rome; from there she is to organise gladiatorial games on an unheard of scale which will ensure Caesar's popularity with the plebs. She reveals to him details of her past at the sacred island of Lesbos, where her lover was slain by the man she is sworn to kill: Pompey the Great.
During the infamous Bona Dea scandal, Iryna saves Caesar's wife, but then faces repeated attempts on her own life.
The bloody conclusion to the games brings Rome to the point of civil war, and sees Iryna proscribed for death.
