Red Desert by Clive Rosengren (An Eddie Collins Mystery #2)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 0.30 MB Retail
Overview: Actor and sleuth Eddie Collins is back in another Hollywood mystery - and the stakes are even higher.
Santa Ana winds and wildfires are plaguing Los Angeles, where Eddie Collins' acting career isn't exactly making him a household name. In fact, it's in danger of becoming a virtual rumor. To make ends meet, he runs his own PI business in the heart of Hollywood. When his A-list friend Mike Ford has his Oscar stolen during a home invasion, Eddie dons his private eye porkpie to find the source of cryptic, threatening letters that start showing up in Ford's mailbox.
His investigation leads him to suspects and events surrounding the filming of a recent movie, Red Desert , which Ford directed and starred in. A rape was committed during the course of the shooting, and Eddie begins to believe that the wrong person may have been convicted of the crime.
After the third letter arrives, Ford's six-year-old daughter is kidnapped. As Eddie races to resolve the case, a longtime friendship is tested, one that was forged against the backdrop of Hollywood, where friends and loyalties come and go like shifting sands.

Foiled Ambitions by John M. Olsen (The Phoenix Initiative Book 11)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 2 mb

After being saddled with a money-pit spaceship needing a long list of repairs, Jonathan Smith has bills to pay to keep the Sub Rosa Infiltration Company afloat, and when the perfect reconnaissance and retrieval contract falls into his lap, he snaps it up.

But when he finds out what he’s supposed to snatch, it becomes obvious that there’s more in play than what their employer let on, and a second guild war could result from the research being conducted on the small planetoid. And even worse, with so much on the line, their employer has authorized a second team to perform a “scorched earth” strike on the facility with Jonathan’s team still potentially in it.

How hard can it be to sneak into a research facility on an isolated planetoid, confiscate some illegal equipment, and make a quick getaway? Jonathan is about to find out.
